A Brighter Future - The Pitch
A Brighter Future's mission will be to fight for every student's right to a great education, regardless of the socioeconomic circumstances under which they were raised. The organization will lobby for changing the public school funding system and transforming it into a system that provides equal opportunities for everyone. The organization will also work to promote critical thinking and fact checking among the youth in the US by doing guests lectures and events at high schools throughout the country.
I believe that in order to create real, sustainable change in our society, we need to start at the very foundation. Making sure that every child in the US has access to a good education must be one of the best ways of providing everyone with an equal opportunity to create a healthy and prosperous life for themselves. Therefore, we can no longer accept the fact that some schools in rural or less affluent areas struggle to pay for supplies and competent teachers. These discrepancies are a direct consequence of the fact that funding for public schools is heavily dependent on the property taxes collected in the local community. As a result, schools in affluent areas with high property taxes will have access to generous funding while schools in poorer areas will experience a lack of funding.
A Brighter Future will lobby local and state governments to change the way they disperse funding to public schools throughout their respective legislative territories. The organization will fight for legislation that allocates an equal amount of funding per student to all schools within a local government, or ideally, an entire state. This will ensure that no one school district will receive less funding than another and that every child in the US will be provided an equal opportunity to get a good education. As a side activity, the organization will also further advance youth "brightness" by lecturing and educating high school students about the importance of critical thinking and reasoning using the best available facts.
